Activities and Interests: I have turned my love of gardening into collecting house plants. I now have around 30 plants between my home and classroom, and I’m loving every second of it. In addition to teaching, I’m also working on becoming an ordained minister. When I’m not teaching or volunteering, I’m a wife and mother.
Factoid: I was married at 23, had my first child at 24, and I was born with 12 fingers.
Quote: “I enjoy watching students connect their learning to things in their lives. Making learning personal is what I believe makes learning fun and long-lasting.”
Lori began her work with youth as a mentor to help other students transition into high school. She has also spent many years learning and teaching students about community service issues.
After earning her bachelor’s degree, Lori moved back to the Bay Area and worked in the special education department at an elementary school in the Palo Alto Unified School District (PAUSD)for nine years.
Now she is in her second year as an elementary school teacher, teaching fourth graders. While working at PAUSD, she has expanded her experience working with students with learning differences. A great strength of Lori’s is her creativity in adapting curriculum and technology to help students practice their academic skills.
