Matching Your Child’s Goals with Tailored Strategies for Better Outcomes

We all learn and work differently, so just because your child takes some time to learn or retain things doesn’t make them “deficient.” It means they are trying to learn in schools not designed for students with their mix of strengths and challenges.

Every child is unique, and our experts believe that. We work with your child to focus beyond academic goals and achievement. We leverage the right tools and direction to guide your child with several skill sets, including:

Homework coaching, organization for students, executive functions skills deficits, help with paying attention, self-advocacy and problem-solving, and time management coaching for students are some areas in which our executive functions coaching can help.

FAQs

What is executive function coaching?

Executive functions coaching helps individuals develop and improve their cognitive skills. These skills include planning, organizing, decision-making, problem-solving, and time management coaching for students.

How long does executive function coaching last?

The overall duration of these coaching sessions can vary based on the student’s existing study skills and the goals they wish to achieve. We offer an academically embedded program during the school year in which your child is not burdened with “extra” academic homework but is focused on developing skills that will make them more efficient and effective learners.

In the summer, and during school breaks, QWERTY also offers an intensive program in which an executive functions curriculum is taught in multiple sessions within a short period. This customized  “boot camp” meets 3 to 5 times weekly. Regular check-ins are then scheduled to ensure that the skills are habituated into a part of their daily routines. Over time, these become automatic like muscle memory.

What specific skills would my child learn?

After QWERTY gathers information about your child’s executive function strengths and weaknesses, we begin “filling in the gaps” in their strategies. No matter your child’s grade level, they learn the things they personally need to put it “all together” at school, specific skill areas include: calendar skills, long-term assignment planning, speaking up positively and effectively when they encounter bumps in the road, organizing their time and materials, taking-notes, tackling dense textbooks, and test anxiety, as well as attentional focus, impulse control, and positive motivation.
